? TATTOOS OR NOT TATTOOS ?

{photo via We Heart It}

I like tattoos. I really do; not as a fashion statement but as a statement about your self, about what you as a person want, need. I'm not a fan of big tattoos, very colorful, but I have to say I love small ones, like the ones that I selected for this post. I want {or at least I think I want one} a small tattoo, but I don't know what exactly, I don't know where, but I know that I want it in black, no color what so ever.
What's your input on this, on tattoos?

  1. I love tattoos and I have my own tattoo machine, I havent yet had the time to use it. But one of my dreams is to master the tattoo art form.
The thing is - I want to tattoo myself. My life has sometimes been very rough and hard. And the hard times of my life is what inspires me in my photography and art.
So, I want to tattoo myself, my left underarm, I want to write all of the years I was depressed and the years I suffered from anorexia. Everytime I will doubt myself / feel ungrateful / lack of inspiration I want to look at my arm and let it all come back to me. That time of my life has shaped me into what I am today and dont ever want to forget about that.

    Great blogpost Tereza.

    Lots of love from Sweden,

  5. Jacob, thank you so much for your answer and thank you for sharing. You are a really amazing guy.
And that's exactly why I want to do a tattoo. To remember where I was and where I am now. Because I suffered a lot growing up, battled with depression {I still do that right now} and I have to be proud of who I am and what I managed to do with my life.
    All my love,
    Teez

  12. I have 4 tattoos so far. All of them mean something special to me. I had the first one when I was 30 years old, so I knew what I was doing. I didn't just follow a trend or fashion. From the photos you shared I like the 3rd and the 4th best.
    Excellent post Tereza. :)

  19. I love tattoos, I personally have 6 totals. All hidden and meaningful. I think tattoos are most beautiful when there properly placed, and followed up with a deep meaning.

  20. You are the second person, Nakia, today that tells me that has 6 tattoos. I'm starting to really think about getting one. :)

  21. My bf doesn't have one, yet.
I think that for the first one, a simple one would be the best.

  23. I have a small tattoo on my upper thigh. I love that I can show it off if I want but keep it hidden if need be. To me a tattoo needs to have a personal connection to yourself otherwise you may regret it later

  24. I love tattoos and woul like to get one in the future, but just as you said, I cannot choose what and where to put. Not a fan of big ones, too. Small ones are cute. Nice photos:)

  25. As I can see, Miss K, we love the same thing when I comes to tattoo. So I want to tell you, if will ever get a tattoo let me know, please.

  26. I agree with you fashion urbia, it's a personal connection and a personal commitment.

  27. :D:D:D the second one is my favorite Kholá. It's really cute and smart at the same time.

  28. I've got a tattoo that's a bar code on my lower back, and the numbers on it are personal to me. I think if you get a tattoo it should mean something and you've got to take the time to think about it.

But other than that, I think small tattoos are cute!

I like the "Love is enough" one!

  30. Wow, I haven't really seen any tatoos this pretty before! This post has kind of made re-think getting one! I have always kind of wanted to but I'm afraid of getting one thinking it will be cute then having it look bad! Thanks for this :)

  31. I love tattoos. I agree with you though as long as they aren't big and colorful.

I currently have two. A small heart on my foot. And on my back i have the word love in my handwriting, and the l is a cancer ribbon and it is in purple standing for all cancers. so that one has a lot of meaning to me.

I do want 7 more. I know that sounds insane.
I want one on the back of my neck that says don't let em get inside of your head. (which is a line of one of my favorite songs)
I want one behind my ear, im not sure what yet. I want one on my shoulder like the back of it, not sure yet either probably a quote from my fave book. I want something on my left wrist, i think having it say have faith, restart. I want one on my ring finger in my husbands (when i get one haha) writing that says love. I want one on my side/ribs that has two doves flying upwards and says in between them, there is more to life than just to live. and then a rosary on my ankle.

So yeah they are a bit expensive, I'm not sure if I will get all those. But the way I see it, is you only have one life to live, so if you want it, why not go for it?

haha such a long comment :)

  32. I love tatoos, but as you accurately defined "not as fashion statement, but as statement about yourself".
There is so many people out there, who have small tatoos (hearts, stars)just because it's sooo :"in" and I'm pretty sure most of them do not even understands the meaning of their tatoos.
I have been planning to get one soon and I know it will be one of Paulo Coelho's guotes.

  34. Emily Anne WOWOWO! Thank you so much for sharing this.
The tattoos you have are so incredible, the reason behind them are so special. The ones to come are so interesting.
You have it all planed out, I don't, I really don't know. Yes, you have only one life and you have to live it. But I don't to make a rush decision. I really want to take my time.

  37. i love the bird cage idea and am going to get a birdcage sometime. i think tattoos are great when done by a good artist. everyone has different styles of course. i have a lot of tattoos actually, on my arm, foot, a small one on my chest, down my spine and big peice on my side! and i plan to get more haha :)i think its completley up to you and no one else, if its something you love then do it and it can always be in a spot that is not as visible (if your not already tattood dont get your arm done i mean haha :)

  41. That's so cool Ladybird :).
And of course every tattoo artist has his/hers unique style and I think the main reason that I haven't made a tattoo until now is because I haven't see an tattoo that I like mede here, in Romania. But if my desire to move to Barcelona will come true, I will definitely get one, two... tattoos :)

  44. Hello Love!

I think they're such a unique statement, but that being said only to a certain degree...Like you mentioned once they're filled completely with color, it gets a tad out of hand.

I'm going to be getting one in October, small black japanese cursive just under my left shoulder blade. I fear that my boyfriends going to get his entire arm done once I do, so far the fact that I haven't done anything yet is the only thing stopping him!!!

    xxoo

  50. I have a teeny tiny star on my wrist... I'm thinking of getting another one in pretty cursive (similar to the "love is enough" pictured) but can't think of where to get it! It's a big commitment and I don't want to put it somewhere that I'll hate it. I love the one on my wrist, but I think a lot of places on a woman's body are tough because of all the... ahem... stretching and sagging that we eventually go through. Sigh.

  51. @Lisa
That is so cool and you are so right. There are so many things to consider when you get a tattoo.

One day I will have one, two, three ....

  55. That flower-turned-into-birds tattoo is absolutely amazing. And I agree - smaller tattoos that someone doesn't notice right away perhaps are much more fun than HUGE OL' BIG ones. :) I don't have any currently, but I've been thinking about getting one for the past three years. We'll see if it ever happens! hehe
